Monitoring Tracking

As you track through the shot, you want to be watching carefully to make sure that the mesh stays locked to the image appropriately. A wire-frame view will be most informative for that (or a greatly reduced opacity).

You can watch the error curve mini-view at bottom-right of SynthEyes to get an ongoing view of tracking error. The error curve for a GeoH-tracked object is a percentage value running from 0% to 100%.

Tracking may be lost or corrupted due to various factors. Items such as

a non-matching model;

an incorrect field of view; or

lens distortion (or worse, rolling shutter)

should be addressed previously as part of the setup process.

Other factors need to be addressed during tracking, such as

changes in lighting or minor un-modeled geometry, manifested as drift;

occluding objects, such as fingers, actors, poles, etc;

bumps in the imagery or final path;

Each of these issues must be addressed specifically.
