HitFilm Export Controls

Open the exported file. Checkbox. When checked, SynthEyes will submit the just- written project file to the operating system to be opened in HitFilm. Windows: HitFilm currently produces an error message if it is already open.

Display in frame#s. Checkbox. When checked, the timelines for the composites show frame numbers, better corresponding to SynthEyes. Not checked, time code is shown (and is always shown for the editing timeline).

Extra Scaling. Number. Coordinates from SynthEyes are multiplied by this factor. The default is 10, since SynthEyes scenes typically are a few hundred units by default, while HitFilm uses pixels, so numbers in the low thousands are more typical. You can set up your coordinate system scaling specifically in SynthEyes to either accommodate some Extra Scaling, or set it to one.

Include Trackers. Selector: No/All as regular/Planars as such. Quick override on whether or not trackers are exported. Planar trackers can be exported as regular trackers if desired, but normally Planars as such are exported, and planar trackers become empty 3D Composite planes in HitFilm, ready to be filled in as needed.

Sort back to front on. Selector: None/Start Frame/Middle Frame/End Frame. Can be used to sort the (many!) tracker layers in the layer stackup according to their distance from the camera on the designated frame. For a 3D scene, this doesn't matter, but it can be helpful to understanding what's where, or can be selected if a more 2D approach will be used. (The actual order changes over the duration of the shot, but layer ordering cannot be animated.)

Tracker Facing Direction. Selector: Camera/Front/Back/Up/Down/Left/Right/ Custom.

Controls which way all the trackers face. Facing the camera is simplest for 2D effects, but if buildings are involved, a Front or other direction may be most convenient. With the custom option, you can enter the rotation angles directly. (You can change the rotation angles of each tracker later manually as needed, of course.)

Custom X,Y,Z rotation(deg). Three comma-separated numbers. These are the tracker rotation values if the Tracker Facing Direction is set to Custom.

Tracker layer scaling. Number. This is the initial scale of each tracker, which will affect layers parented to it.

Shutter angle, phase(deg). Two comma-separated numbers as indicated. The defaults should almost always be good.

Send shadowing. Checkbox. When checked, cast-shadows and receive-shadows information from SynthEyes is exported to HitFilm.
